Day 24 - Learning about Antarctica

Antarctic icebergs are not usually craved form glaciers, but consist of portions that have broken away from the great ice shelves which surround parts of the Antarctic continent.  Most of the icebergs are confined to latitudes south of 35 degrees.  In order to determine the positions of the icebergs, special weather reports by radio and fax are received hourly!

We have several speakers on board to discuss the Antarctic.  Robert Hofman is actually from Pittsburgh, and he gives many persentations about Southern Ocean Marine Mammals and Birds as well as information on the Antarctic Treaty System.  He has done many to the Antarctic to conduct ecperiments and research on the biology and ecology of seals, and other marine animals.

I learned how to create French Macaroons, but there were a tons of steps and ingredients! I still prefer the American Macaroons made with coconut!  Although it was still interesting to watch how they were made!

I am still obsessed with the chilled soup! They have had some interesting ones lately! Avocado, Apple and Nutmeg as well as a Gazpacho!
