This is the most significant regional distinction in the Pacific Ocean. It separates the deeper, mafic igneous rock (just a reminder it is volcanic rock with low levels of silicon and high density) of the Central Pacific Basin from the partially submerged continental areas of felsic igneous rock ( which is volcanic rock with a high content of silicon and low density). Within the closed loop of the Andesite Line are most of the deep troughs, submerged volcanic mountains and oceanic volcanic islands that characterize the Pacific Basin. Here basaltic lavas gently flow out of rifts to build huge dome - shaped volcanic mountains whose eroded summits form island arcs, chains and clusters. Outside the Andesite Line, volcanism is of the explosive type and the Pacific Ring of Fire is the world's foremost belt of explosive volcanism!!
Another day of rough seas, but I did go to knitting and we made it to watercolors! Lunch again at the dining room - it is much better to have it served rather than try to walk with food and drinks! Rough seas mean another day at the Explorers Lounge with Karen and Jane knitting and blogging! We had some fun coffee drinks, cookies and chocolates, which made the day even better! Whereas my mom played Risk with Bill, Mike, Pauline and George! Karen and I did have a chance to go to the gym, which was nice!
Since we have been on the ship we have moved the clock forward 3 hours, back one hour, now we moved it back another hour last night and we are moving back the clock one more hour tonight! So tonight we will now be back to Pittsburgh time and actually we are about directly under Pittsburgh in longitude! We will continue to move the clock forward hours as we sail across the Pacific!
Tonight for dinner, Jack and Gloria joined us at our table! We had another fabulous night talking about other people's lives and learning more and more about different things around the world! We decided that we are going to continue to invite different guests to our table! We love it!
