Day 29 - Ushuaia

We are in Ushuaia, Argentina!

It was a fabulous day!  The city of Ushuaia was a skiing town with great little shops and restaurants that lined the streets! The ship docked right at the port and the city of Ushuaia lined the harbor.  Right off the ship we got on a catamaran at the port and we traveled down the Beagle Channel!  We sat upstairs and therefore had a wonderful view of the scenery!  We could easily step outside to take pictures and enjoy the fresh air! The scenery was amazing!  During the trip, on one side of the water there were tall mountains with snow capped tops and on the other side there were tall mountains covered with green trees!  The channel appeared green because of the reflection of the trees in the water!

As we continued down the Lapataia River, the sights were just amazing!  The water was calm when we got in the channels. Up ahead I could see the mountains rising out of the water.

In the distance we saw a small lighthouse on an isolated island. As we got closer to the lighthouse, it towered over us!

We then passed another small island but this one was covered with birds that looked like penguins and when you looked closer, there was a small colony of sea lions!  The sea lions were battling for control of their space and you could watch them fighting each other!

We continued to sail down the water until we reached the end of Lapataia Bay and the beginning of Tierra del Fuego National Park!

We just sailed down the water and the sights were amazing!

There were small islands of trees and the mountains in the background!

There was a sign there that said we have reached the farthest part of Route 3 - The End of the PanAmerican Highway!

The drive in Tierra del Fuego was also breathtaking! There were trees everywhere and the beautiful Andes mountains surrounded us!

We headed toward Roca Lake traveling along a narrow route. On the way we saw the destruction that the beavers had on the trees.

We reached Roca Lake and it was a stunning area! The reflection of the mountains in the water was so pretty!

Then we drove to the lake to see the Black Neck Swans and another beautiful lake.  We had some time to go to the observation deck as well as look around at the museum.

Next we stopped to see this neat looking pier and beautiful beach.  Although it was much to cold to swim!

We had a perfect day exploring the National Park and Beagle Channel.

Although the day was not over and when we got back to town, we walked around the ski town and went into the small shops that lined the streets.  There were great chocolate stores and butcher shops too!  The town was really nice and as we made our way back to port we found a time capsule.  We also found some cool signs and scenes along the way!

Signs that tell the distance to everywhere!

More color and more signs!

When we got back on the ship, I meet Karen and she taught me how to do Spinning!  It was a good thing because of the dinner I was about to have!

Tonight we joined our friends Pauline, Mike, Judy and Mike at the Pinnacle.  The meal was really good and as an added bonus they use Blgavari china .  You could order anything you want from the menu, so I had this great French onion soup and then crab cakes which were fabulous. Then for dinner I ordered Filet with a garlic sauce, along with mushrooms, asparagus and creamed spinach. For the table we got the lobster macaroni and cheese to share! Finally for dessert, I ordered the chocolate soufflé (you actually had to order this before dinner) and we got a chocolate volcano cake to share!  Everything was so good and we enjoyed it all!
