Day 18 - Buenos Aires (Day 1)

Welcome to Buenos Aires!

Today we decided to go to the Gaucho Ranch in the Pampas.  The ranch was located far out from the city and therefore we had to take a bus from the port.  Although when we got off the boat, their was a demonstration that dead stopped traffic!  Apparently the people who live in the slums of Buenos Aires who receive their electricity as well as other amenities from the city  for free, had their electricity cut off and therefore they blocked the roads with fires and barricades. We were in the van and eventually found a way around the traffic, but they did lift the ban on electricity so they got out of the streets!

It took about 45 minutes to get to the ranch, and when we arrived one of the Gaucho's were serving drinks and empanadas.  We had time to walk around the ranch and we found the horse stable!  So we rode the horses around the ranch and out into the pasteur.

After the horse ride, we walked around some more.  At the ranch they have a hotel that looked really nice.

Around the area, there were more horses, donkeys and even a llama.  There is also a pond with ducks and birds and there were flamingoes there too!  I am not sure how they got to be at a ranch!

They were cooking lunch at an outdoor grill. Argentina is known for their meats, so at our lunch they served steaks, sausages, chicken, ribs, etc.  There was way too much food to eat!  They also served salad and a rice pudding thing, but we were warned not to eat certain foods.

They then had a folklore dance where the gaucho performed certain ceremonial dances with drums and blankets.  They also performed tango dances too!

We then headed out to the fields to watch the gauchos race the horses and perform certain tasks, such as picking a hoop up with a pole and even placing a pencil through a wedding ring!

Today was a fun day, but it wasn't over!  We still had the bus ride back to town, due to some things out of our control, we didn't make it back till about 5:45pm, and we had to be on a bus at 6 to go to a Tango show. Pictures coming soon!
